Biography
Adrienne Schlitzkus has been dancing for over 30 years and has been a dance educator and choreographer for 19 years. She began her dance studies at The Moving Company School of Dance in Sandusky, Ohio, where she trained in ballet, lyrical, jazz, and tap. She was an assistant teacher and competed nationally as a member of the studio’s competition team.
Upon graduation in 2004, she attended Eastern Michigan University, from which she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Adrienne also minored in dance at EMU, where she studied modern, ballet, tap, and jazz dance and worked with a variety of choreographers. She performed in many Faculty and Guest Artist Concerts and student choreography showcases. She attended the American College Dance Festival multiple times, where she took master classes and performed in pieces choreographed by faculty and student choreographers. She also had the honor of having a piece chosen by Eastern faculty to be adjudicated at the festival in 2009.
While at EMU, Adrienne began to teach and choreograph at dance studios in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, including Randazzo School of Dance and Dance Xplosion. It was during this time that she realized she had a true passion for dance education.
After graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 2010, Adrienne made her way to Gladwin and taught math and English at Gladwin Junior High School for six years while also teaching at GWSD. Now a full-time teacher at the studio, she instructs and choreographs many of GWSD’s dance teams and private lessons. Her dances have received numerous awards at national competitions, including Most Entertaining for several musical theater routines and Best Choreography for her modern routines. She loves being able to connect with her students and helping them find ways to share their own love of dance through their performances.
Adrienne lives in Gladwin with her husband Tyler and her three dancing daughters, Bobbie, Isadora, and Sienna
